Share the secrets!

My first “secret spot” I want to share with you is a small but very beautiful jewelry shop in one of Barcelona’s most exclusive and charming area, the Sant Gervasi neighborhood. It is a jeweler called ANIMA Barcelona and the owner is a lovely lady Esther. She comes from Barcelona, is actually an interior designer and made a dream come true while opening her own shop. I consider this place as a real “unknown Barcelona secret spot” and talked with Esther.

Interview with Esther

Esther, please tell me about the concept behind ANIMA BARCELONA?

The idea of the Anima arises from the intention to create a line of jewelry in silver and gold, with precious and semi-precious stones. Also the need to design unique pieces and take care of each client. The store exists for about 10 years, and 5 years ago I decided to create some jewelry collections by my own.

Where and how do you pick your jewelry for the store?

Most of the jewels are unique designs. Besides this I also make personal choices while visiting international fairs in Milan, Paris or Hong Kong.

What‘s the most expensive piece you ever sold?

The most expensive piece I sold was an engagement ring with a central micropavé diamond in white gold. It was a masterpiece – the future bride must have been really happy.

What‘s the best seller at ANIMA BARCELONA?

The “circle of life”-ring (“anillo de la vida”). It is a ring made of a meter of silver, hand-rolled with a spectacular outcome. You can have it in silver, gold or rosé. Now we will update the design by adding natural stones.

Tell us about a special occasion that you‘ll never forget!

I remember that day when parents brought their daughter – who just turned 18 – blindfolded into my store and had hidden a little puppy dog with a neck bundle and diamond earrings inside. When we took of her band she saw her new dog and the earrings. It was a very funny and exiting day and we made her really happy.

What would you NEVER sell in your store?

Pieces made by supporting human abuse (exploitation of mines diamantes..etc) or animal traffic!

What do you like the most about your store?

Apart from my jewelry? The interior design! It is a space that conveys a lot of calm and serenity…it is completely in white and brings out the colors of the stones and metals shine.

You also designed some jewelry collections. How do you do this?

The design process begins by creating a line concept. It can be “different” or just very minimal. First I draw my ideas with the pencil in my sketchbook and after that my craftsman works on it. All our pieces are crafted directly in Barcelona.

Where do you like to shop the most?

I love getting lost in the neighborhoods of Barcelona and discover small shops where you can always find something that surprises you.

What do you like to do on sundays?

On Sundays I spend time in the city, with friends or quietly at home enjoying my animals and painting (my other passion is painting. Here you can take a look at it.) And yes, I always carry a small notebook with me. I could get inspired every moment.

What‘s your favorite city and why?

Definitely New York! I love the endless possibilities and energy that NY gives me.

What‘s your next goal you want to achieve?

I want to make my store more international. My clients are mostly from Barcelona and I would also like to meet people from abroad. I want to reach out for them through my website and social media.
